In March 2026, the team from INES Ingenieros Consultores travelled to Fiji to carry out the final mission of the “Diagnostic Study for Strengthening Climate Resilience of Rural Infrastructure in Fiji”, undertaken for the Government of Fiji in collaboration with the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB).

This one-week mission marked the technical completion of more than twelve months of joint work with the AIIB and the country’s main public institutions. The main objective of the visit was to present and validate the proposed prioritised investment programme aimed at strengthening the climate resilience of two strategic sectors in Fiji: the rural road network and rural water supply and sanitation infrastructure.

Throughout the week, INES organised two presentation sessions of the investment programme at the Holiday Inn Suva, bringing together senior representatives from the Government, public agencies, and development partners operating in the country. The sessions were officially opened by the Minister of the Ministry of Public Works, Meteorological Services and Transport and were attended by the main ministries and agencies responsible for infrastructure planning, financing, and management.

In addition to the plenary sessions, INES team held bilateral working meetings with the AIIB and various government institutions to review the proposed investments in detail, address technical observations, and gather institutional feedback. The mission concluded with a closing meeting with Fiji’s Ministry of Finance, focused on the next steps towards consolidating the investment programme.

The discussions held during the week helped to technically validate the investment proposal developed under the study, while also incorporating key input from the Government and the main sector stakeholders ahead of the programme’s finalisation.

The mission also included the participation of other multilateral organisations and development partners active in Fiji, including the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank, further strengthening institutional coordination and complementarity between the different investment initiatives currently underway in the country.

For INES, having supported the AIIB and the Government of Fiji throughout this process is a source of particular pride. The study has helped identify the country’s main investment needs through a robust technical approach supported by objective data, while laying the foundations for a long-term roadmap to strengthen the resilience of rural infrastructure and improve the quality of life of thousands of communities across Fiji.
