The Spanish firm INES Ingenieros (www.ines.es), specialized in structural engineering and technical consultancy, has been selected by the United Nations (UNDP) to carry out the structural assessment of eighty buildings in Mogadishu, Somalia. In order to determine users’ safety, UNSOS (United Nations Office for Somalia) required the revision of the original project (calculations, drawings and technical specifications) as well as the analysis of the boundary conditions, with the objective of contextualizing the existing damages. For that purpose, a structural inspection of the eighty buildings has been carried out, including the corresponding tests, samplings and analysis in the laboratory; as well as the subsequent diagnosis of the damages observed, and the assessment of their impact on the structural stability of the buildings. With this contract, INES Ingenieros adds a new project to its portfolio of multilateral projects.
