Mineral Docks: Industrial Memory and Heritage Under Rehabilitation

Posted on
by

Three of the last remaining mineral docks in Spain are currently undergoing rehabilitation. These infrastructures bear witness, on the one hand, to the mining boom the country experienced in the final third of the 19th century, and on the other, to the emergence of prefabrication, standardization, and assembly in construction processes, within the broader context of the Industrial Revolution.

Exceptional engineering works in unique settings, these docks stand as visible traces of an abandoned mining cultural landscape.

We would like to highlight and thank the Spanish Ministry of Culture for its initiative, as well as acknowledge the commitment of the local and port authorities — Castro Urdiales City Council, Águilas City Council, and the Port Authority of Huelva — for supporting and funding the restoration of these unique elements of our history.
