The INES team has just returned from Nanjing, China, after meeting with colleagues from the PIARC Technical Committee 4.2 on Resilient Bridges and taking part in the International Seminar on Large Scale Bridges, jointly organized by PIARC, JSTI Group, CCCC Highway Consultants, and Jiangsu Communications Holdings.
The seminar featured high-level presentations on the design, construction, maintenance, and management of long-span bridges, with special attention to structural monitoring, digital innovation, and the application of digital twins to efficient infrastructure management. A particularly engaging round table explored how to design and plan structures for 150–200-year service lives.
The week concluded with a memorable technical visit to two major Yangtze River bridges, including the Zhangjinggao Yangtze River Bridge, currently under construction and set to become the world’s longest suspension bridge with a 2,300-metre main span.
We sincerely thank the organizers for their warm hospitality and commend the remarkable technical capacity and innovative drive of Chinese engineering, which continues to set new global standards in bridge development.
