INES Ingenieros, in partnership with Centunion, led the project to implement a Bridge Management System (BMS) for the Kenya Road Agency (Kenha) between 2021 and 2026. This project involved not only adapting INES’s bridge inventory and inspection methodology to the country’s specific bridges and resources and conducting a comprehensive inventory and inspection campaign for all bridges nationwide, but also a range of other tasks that provide the agency responsible for the country’s main roads with decision-making tools for future bridge maintenance management.

The technology used for the BMS is based on the i3met® platform, adapted to Kenha’s needs, and installed on a local server supplied and installed by INES at Kenha’s headquarters in Nairobi.

These complementary tasks within the core of the System include:

  • Training inspectors, structural and GIS engineers, IT specialists, and Kenha managers in the i3met® methodology and software application
  • Development and implementation of a methodology for the economic valuation of bridges and their depreciation over time
  • Deterioration models that allow for a prognosis of bridge condition over time
  • Bridge maintenance plan
