Following the extraordinary flooding of the rivers surrounding the town of Aldea del Fresno in the Community of Madrid on September 3 and 4, 2023, the Picadas-Toledo pipeline crossing over the Perales River where it meets the Arroyo Grande was partially collapsed. This crossing was an old railway bridge that supported the Tajo Hidrografic Confederation pipeline that supplied more than 70 municipalities in the province of Toledo.

As first measures to ensure the stability of the pipeline and allow its correct operation, a series of provisional situations were established by supporting it on, first one and then two, props located in the riverbed between the collapsed piers of the old bridge. In these provisional phases, the crawling and load transfer operations of the pipeline to the successive supports stand out for their complexity.

As a final solution, a single span bridge with a total length of 80 m was designed. The deck is resolved by means of a double metal truss of variable depth in the form of an arch supported on two gantry-type piers. This deck, which is an improvement for the service and maintenance of the pipeline itself, is also prepared to accommodate a possible future doubling of the pipeline. The piers, located just in front of the abutments of the original bridge, are mixed with concrete bases and metal crowning.
