The Underground Works Management System of the road network managed by the Generalitat de Catalunya aims to optimize the maintenance and safety of over 200 tunnels using advanced inspection technologies. The Direcció General d’Infraestructures de Mobilitat of the Generalitat de Catalunya leads this effort, focusing on the detection of structural pathologies and the planning of maintenance tasks.

The project involves providing specialized services for the basic inspection and management of underground works, employing 3D laser scanners (LiDAR) and thermography systems. These tools enable detailed inspections that generate three-dimensional maps and results integrated into the Sistema de Gestió d’Actius Geotècnics. The inspections minimize disruptions to vehicular traffic, ensuring efficient execution with minimal impact.

Key activities of the project include field data collection using cutting-edge technologies, the processing and analysis of this data with specialized software, and the preparation of detailed reports on detected pathologies. Additionally, data is delivered in standardized formats (LAS, TIFF, DXF) for integration and future use.

The budget allocated for the project is €225,000 (excluding VAT), considering extensions of up to 48 months.

The project has achieved significant results, such as substantial improvements in road infrastructure management, the generation of detailed information to support decision-making, the reduction of risks associated with tunnel conditions, and the minimization of traffic disruptions.

The Direcció General d’Infraestructures de Mobilitat relies on advanced technologies such as high-precision 3D laser scanners, infrared thermography, and geospatial processing software to ensure accurate and high-quality results.

In conclusion, this project has represented an innovation in the management of underground infrastructures, delivering greater safety and efficiency in maintaining the tunnels of Catalunya’s road network.
