The rehabilitation project to renovate the railway section Xátiva-Silla (43 km) aimed to improve railway transport in the line Valencia- La Encina, especially the short distance railway services of Valencia.
Ines Ingenieros developed the integral renovation project of the superstructure, electrification and infrastructure (earthworks and drainage system) of this section, starting from the definition of the necessities, presented in the preliminary studies.
The works started with a technical inspection and a geotechnical campaign to identitify the pathologies in the infrastructure and their consequences in the serviceability and safety of the operation of the railway line.
In addition, hydrological, climatological and drainage studies were necessary to guarantee the transversal permeability of the infrastructure. It was imperative to take into account the infl uence of the recently-built high-speed railway line parallel to the existing one under study.
Moreover, the project included the rehabilitation projects of the bridges in the section. It incorporated the technical and economic study to substitute the steel bridges.
The railway layout, stations, electrification, and junctions are adequated to meet the new exploitation needs, seeking to balance economic, functional, technical, constructive and environmental criteria.
